If your local Verizon Wireless store has not sold out of the new Morotola Droid X, it will soon. That's based on calling a few local stores, and also because the Droid X is already backordered on Verizon's website.

Indeed, it's not too bad. Although Droid X buyers will see the same sad badge that Droid Incredible buyers have seen, which is saying shipping will be postponed, it's only until July 23rd, the site says.

Positive-thinkers will not it says "by," not "on," so it's possible the X will ship earlier than that, if you order. Things are definitely better than for Evo 4G buyers, who have seen the device disappear for days off of Sprint's site, with no restock date given.

Here's what Verizon says, officially:

"This has been a very good day one for Droid X sales. Customers were in line at midnight in some markets, in other places there were lines when the stores opened and in other stores there has been a steady stream of customers. We have been successful at keeping up with early demand but at present inventory in some parts of the country inventory is either low or out. (It truly varies around the country.) Since we have weekly shipments planned, customers can still order phones and can expect them to be shipped on or before July 23.
